The South of England Basset Hound Club Open Show 20.07.19

Thanks to the Club for inviting me to judge as this very well run show it was both an honour and a pleasure and I had a very enjoyable relaxing day. Thanks also to my very helpful Steward Lauren Armstrong for her assistance on the day. Lastly thanks to the exhibitors for sportingly accepting my decisions its appreciated.

Minor Puppy Dog 3,1abs

1st – Watkins – Blackvein Code Breaker – Masc. puppy with good head & pleasing expression. Nice for type & quality. Good front assembly, back of correct length slight dip but just his age will firm with time. Balanced hindquarters. Good overall balance for age & nice to go over. He is well off for substance should finish well. Moved out soundly & well in all directions covering the ground easily, promising. B.P.D & R.B.P.I.S.

 

2nd – Price’s – Wellsbayview Sorrento – Similar remarks to 1, apply lots to like, again very nice for quality & type. Pleasing head & good expression. Smaller mould than 1, and closer to ground but then again not up on himself today needs experience. Has less substance than 1, but adequate for size. Topline to firm with age. He moved out freely & well with ease, again promising.

 

Post Graduate Dog 2,0abs

 

1st – Pearson’s – Armardio Angel of Harlem by Malrich – Masc. dog of nice type & quality. Good head & expression. Good fore angles, firm topline of correct length & balanced hindquarters. Good underline with good ground clearance. Has substance without coarseness and a balanced look to him. He moved out soundly fore & aft & well in profile.

 

2nd – Webb’s – Dalpino Wolf Scoll for Suaisa (Imp. MLT)  – Nice for quality & type. Pleasing head & good expression. Things to like but underline not a good as 1, and closer to ground than ideal. Topline firm of adequate length, moderate in hindquarters. He moved out ok away & back but felt he could have put more in to his profile movement today.

 

Limit Dog 2,1abs

 

1st – Jones’s –  JWW’18 Benelux JW’18 Qubo Avaleur Du Sabre Met Clanwillow (Imp BEL) – Masc. dog of very nice type & quality. Good head & expression. Good fore angles, firm topline of correct length & balanced hindquarters. Good underline with ground clearance. Well off for substance. Has a very pleasing balanced look to him. He moved out soundly fore & aft with powerful rear drive & covered the ground easily & very well in profile. Lots to like he should do very well at the higher level. Pleased to award him R.B.D.

 

Open Dog 1,0abs

 

1st – Allchorne’s – Nelgus Thyme Bomb J.W – Masc. dog of super type & quality. Best of heads & good expression. Good fore angles, firm topline of correct length & balanced hindquarters. Good underline with good ground clearance. Good substance throughout no coarseness. Cast a very nice picture standing with a very clean-cut look to him. His movement was a joy to watch so sound away & back and effortless in profile covering the ground easily showing reach and great drive. Another year an he should come into his best & hopefully will take top awards. Pleased to award him B.D & B.I.S.

 

Special Beginners Bitch 3,1abs

 

1st – Ellard’s – Armardio Playing with Fire – Fem. bitch of nice type & quality. Good head & expression. Good fore angles, topline to firm still young however backline of correct length.  Adequate hindquarters. Good underline with good ground clearance. Lighter in bone & substance but she has enough for size. She moved out soundly & well.

 

2nd – Whisker’s – Deja Vu  – Still very raw for age and not cooperating with her handler today so not making the best of herself today just needs time & experience. She moved out ok away & back but could have put more in to her profile movement. Enjoyed her day out

 

Minor Puppy Bitch 3,1abs

 

1st – Watkins – Blackvein Enigma – Fem. bitch well off for substance. Nice head & pleasing expression. Nice for type & quality. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm for age. Balanced hindquarters. Balanced look overall for age. Moved out soundly & well fore & aft and well in profile, promising. Pleased to award her R.B.P.B.

 

2nd – Jones’s – Clanwillow Centenary Dream  – Again nice for quality & type. Slower in development than 1, but should finish well lots to like. Pleasing head & good expression. Good front, firm topline & balanced hind quarters & underline showing good ground clearance. She moved out cleanly away & back and covered the ground well in profile movement, promising.

 

Puppy Bitch 2,0abs

 

1st – Jones’s – Clanwillow Centenary Hope – Litter sister to MPB. Fem. bitch. Nice head & pleasing expression. Very nice for type & quality. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm for age & balanced hindquarters. Clean cut look to her very balanced for age lots to like. Moved out soundly & well fore & aft and very well in profile, very promising. Pleased to award her B.P.B.

 

2nd – Lesiakowski’s – Wellsbayview Florence at Brettchis – Again nice for quality & type. Pleasing fem. head & good expression. Good front, topline still to firm, balanced hind quarters & underline lower in ground clearance than 1. Lots to like but she moved out just ok & could do better if fitter and showed more drive from behind & ease of profile movement.

 

Junior Bitch 2,0abs

 

1st – Pearon’s – Armardio I’m on Fire – Fem. bitch of substance all Basset. Nice head & pleasing expression. Very nice for type & quality. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm topline & balanced hindquarters. Very balanced look overall to her with very clean-cut lines showing great balance. She moved out soundly & well fore & aft and very well in profile covering the ground with ease, very promising. Pleased to award her R.B.B.

 

2nd Jones’s – Clanwillow Bright by Design – Attractive bitch smaller mould than the winner but again nice type and quality. Fem. bitch. Nice head & pleasing expression. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm & balanced hindquarters. Lots to like. Moved out soundly coming towards me but slightly close behind today. Covered the ground very well in profile.

 

Post Graduate Bitch 3,1abs

 

1st – Jones’s – Clanwillow Shinning Bright – Very Fem. bitch. Nice head & pleasing expression. Nice for type & quality with enough substance for size. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm. Balanced hindquarters. Balanced outline showing nice flowing lines throughout. Moved out soundly & well fore & aft and very well in profile.

 

2nd – Steer’s – Rosezest Sansa Stark  –Again nice for quality & type. Pleasing head & good expression. Good front, slight dip in topline & longer cast than winner, balanced hind quarters & underline lower in ground clearance than ideal. She moved out soundly away & back and covered the ground well in profile movement.

 

Limit Bitch 3,0abs

 

1st – Danel’s –Wellsbayview Annie Power at Bazbourne – Nice type, Fem. bitch of substance all Basset. Nice head & pleasing expression. Very nice for type & quality. Good front assembly, back slightly longer than ideal but firm, & balanced hindquarters. Overall cast a nice outline with lots to like. She moved out soundly & well fore & aft and very well in profile covering the ground with ease.

 

2n – Allchorne’s – Nelgus Cinnamon Spice – Again lots to like smaller mould than the winner but again nice type and quality. Fem. bitch. Nice head & pleasing expression. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm & balanced hindquarters. Nice flowing lines throughout. She moved out well fore & aft & very well in profile movement.

 

3rd - Beckett’s – Sedonias Bumblebee at Beckshounds

 

Open Bitch 2,0abs

 

1st – Price’s – Wellsbayview Athena in Springvalley – Very Fem. bitch. Nice head & pleasing expression. Lovely for type & quality, substance just right for size. Good front assembly, back of correct length & firm. Very balanced hindquarters. Very balanced outline showing nice flowing lines throughout. Moved out so soundly fore & aft and excellent in profile covering the ground with great ease. Pleased to award her B.B.

 

2nd – Pearson’s – Armardio Almost an Angel J.W  –Very fem. with good substance. Again nice for quality & type. Pleasing head & good expression. Good front, firm topline & balanced hind quarters. Good underline showing good ground clearance. She moved out soundly in front but slightly close behind today, her profile movement was very good covering the ground easily with reach & drive. Lots to like.

 

Veteran Dog or Bitch 4,2abs

 

1st – Beckett’s –Woferlow Tickety Boo at Beckshounds – 11 years but moving like a youngster. Fem. bitch. Nice head & pleasing expression. Nice for type & quality with enough substance for size. Good front assembly, just enough length of backline, firm topline. Balanced hindquarters. Balanced outline showing nice flowing lines. Moved out so soundly fore & aft and very well in profile. Pleased to award her B.V.I.S.

 

2nd – Danel’s –Blackvein Hasty at Bazbourne – Larger type than winner, again nice for quality & type. Pleasing head & good expression. Good front, firm topline of correct length, balanced hind quarters & underline showing good ground clearance. She moved out soundly towards me but slightly close away today. Covered the ground well in profile movement.
